The Plan

PLAN – PARSON CROSS

Days so far planning meetings and Christmas event Rag and Bone woodcut.

1 – Chaucer School. To deliver day in school to demonstrate our process of working/ interrogating relational practice and our commission. Students will be offered live project with budget of 100 to deliver a piece of work to community on day of opening.

Rational. To involve the school in the opening of the square. To acknowledge the impact the school and pupils with have on the developing function of the public space. To explore how a small intervention can encourage school ownership and have a wider impact.

2 - Shop Work. Production of 2 art objects for 5- 7 shops. Eg. neon for barbers, painting for library, print for hardware. One item to be given permanently to shop one to be sited in YAS gallery as exhibition open to public.

Cost

Rational. This area of work aims to explore the role of arts practice and commissioning we also are keen to get people discuss the impact of context on the meaning of work and how audience can engage with arts practice locally.

3. Multiple Drop – leaflet/posters/multiples to publicise event and be self contained artworks. Designs taken from ‘finding beauty’ idea, made in response to being on estate.)

.

Rational. We felt that an exploration of what beauty means on Parson Cross and whether the “artists Vision” is relevant to arts practice which engages with the social. It would both advertise and celebrate the opening of the square and develop the aims of the project brief.

4 One to one /rag and bone - personalized art

5 – Count down to opening – big numbers on wood – Steve performance.

Rational. Well it’s just a funny bloody good idea.

6 – Event - commission 6 artists [inc Yorkshire Art Space] to make commemorative works for giving away. We would like to build this around the idea of street hawkers. Each artist will be given a tall cross on which to hang their “Creations” for distrubution. We would like to keep people mobile and avoid tables and chairs.

6 artists x 200 1200

Rational. We thought this was a clever twist and would be read by loads of artists on artjobs. It also would give a chance for YAS artists to get involved. We felt that the idea of exchange and art production has become a central theme or through line and this culmination at the final opening event would leave a legacy in peoples homes which was relevant and asked pertinent questions.

Forward planning – symposium.

Questions

Is the Budget breakdown doable?

Do we know the date of the event yet?

Is there a possible venue at YAS to show the work?

What do you expect in terms of research documentation?

Any other issues (Andrew and Council money – do they want a piece of work for town hall – central library?>)
